What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Veneers are thin shells of dental porcelain that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They can change the colour, shape, size, and overall appearance of your smile in a way that looks completely natural.
Veneers are a popular choice for patients who want to address staining that doesn't respond to teeth whitening, chips or cracks, uneven or worn teeth, minor spacing or alignment issues, or simply want a more uniform and confident smile.
Are Veneers Right for Me?
The best candidates for veneers are patients with healthy teeth and gums who want to improve the appearance of their smile. During a consultation, your dentist will assess your teeth, discuss your goals, and give you an honest recommendation.
What Does Treatment Involve?
Veneers typically require at least two appointments. At the first, a small amount of enamel is removed from the front of each tooth to create space for the veneer. An impression or digital scan is taken and sent to a dental lab.
At the second appointment, the custom veneers are set in place and adjusted for fit, bite, and aesthetics. You will be able to provide feedback on the colour and shape of your veneers. If any adjustments need to be made by the lab, they are sent back for a couple of days. If they are perfect, they are bonded directly to your natural tooth.
How Long Do Veneers Last?
With proper care, porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years or longer. They are stain-resistant and durable under normal use. It is not recommended to bite into hard foods with your veneers. It is highly recommended to wear a nightguard to prevent wear and tear on them during sleep.
